I noticed tonight that the temperature dropped pretty significantly, so I got in my car, drove to a local shop and blew my spending money for this pay period on firewood. Then I drove that firewood out to the occupy site and gifted it to the Occupiers… And that’s all I did. Donating supplies. It’s what I’ve been doing and it’s what I’ll continue to do.
I may have the chops to be the man with the megaphone, but I just can’t do it without sacrificing things that make up this life that I’ve worked my whole life to live. I could figure out a way to work less hours. I could take fewer classes. I could stop going to the Two Shits Poetry Collective or Open Mics or the gigs of Local Musicians. There are a dozen things I could give up but…
This is what I do. I’m a poet, and a student, and a banker.
I’m choosing to live my life like nothing is happening and it’s tearing me up inside.
I’ll donate what I can, when I can… and I’ll do my best to sleep at night.
Stay warm out there, team. Fight the good fight.
